Back Splashing.

It was a big leap of faith for me to take my wonder bar to my subway tile.  I really had no idea if I would be able to pry off the cut parts of the tile I needed to, or if I would rip down part of the wall.  I was EVER so careful but knew I had to go for it.

GULP!

The tile stopped where the cabinets stopped and I wanted to take it all the way to the fireplace.

This is a wonder bar.  It really is a wonderfully useful tool especially when your a one woman show like me!

Some careful demo and I was ready to tile!

I had to mark a level line.

The tiles on the left are the old ones that match the black splash.  The tiles on the right are the new ones that I had to buy to fill in the huge by the fireplace I hadn't accounted for in my original tile purchase.

I mixed and matched them into a somewhat random pattern.

and away we go

I need to lower the shelf.  The shelf and the side of the cabinet both need some white paint.

Grouting tile isn't all that hard but it does take some patience and a really good sponge.  I have see SO many tile jobs where the installer stopped at this point.  Its ugly.

 A pan of water and a good sponge and a little elbow grease will get you this.

This corner might not look like much but I had to put on my big girl panties and use the wet saw.  I am really quite scared of saws but I really wanted this to be done!  I hauled the saw out side and did the cuts I needed.

Yeah me!  It wasn't anywhere near as scary as I thought either.

My little blue dude watched the whole thing and is proud of me!

Subway Tile, I've Lost Track of What Edition This Is....

Yucky damage from removing the old counter.

I couldn't get the  trowel  into the tight spot so I ended up  buttering' the backs of each tile.

There was a bit of a funny gap in one place so the Cheez-it box stood in as a shim. Maybe they would like to sponsor my blog?

I got half way through this job and realized I really like tiling.  Its been ages since I've done any but I really like the tactile nature of it.  It looks good when its done and its not super hard.  I looked at tile for the bathroom today and I think I've almost convinced myself to re-tile around my bath tub.

 Poor Squishy is traumatized by being moved around so much.  

Grout will happen tomorrow once these are good and dry.

White Subway Tile Love

I feel in love with white subway tile about 6 years ago.  I love the clean lines and the simplicity of it.

I tiled the back splash in my mother's kitchen with subway tile.  It gave it a cute 40's vibe.

I tiled my mother's bathroom in subway tile.

I have a few spots in my kitchen where I will need to patch after the new counters are in.  I am setting my sights on where else I can put subway tile.  Its a look I don't get tired of.

Our old counters have the yucky up turned back splash.  That will be gone and we will have a gap to fill with tile.

I think once the kitchen is finished, I will move on to the our master bath.  For what ever reason, our builder thought it would be a good idea to use floor tiles on the walls around the tub.
